There are two meetings to look at this Saturday night, with Melton and Albion Park getting my attention.
Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 2, Number 4, Morgan Mylee
This looks like a great race for this mare and I am quite keen on her chances. Andy Gath trains with Kate Gath to steer. This horse has done little wrong in three runs this time in. This horse was excellent in defeat here last Saturday night. This horse got the three back pegs spot and was held up for clear air until charging late to run second. This horse has good gate speed, so she finds the front and will prove hard to get past.
Next best: Race 4, Number 1, Kyvalley Pierro
I am hoping for an aggressive Chris Alford steer from the pole. This horse has won two of three, with his lone defeat coming last time out when beaten by key rival here, Plymouth Chubb. This horse had every chance but his two wins suggest he’s much better when leading and that is the set up he should get here.
Value: Race 7, Number 8, Reactor Now
He’s worth an each-way gamble at decent odds. This horse has been plagued by ordinary draws in recent times, but he gets a lovely trailing draw this time around, hopefully leaders back, three back on the pegs at worst. This horse is racing well and with a soft trip, he’ll only run well at a decent price.
Best bet: Race 3, Number 8, Franco Hampton
I am keen on this gelding. He gets the perfect sit behind the speed, and likely leader Paravani, who has brilliant gate speed and should be able to hold up quite comfortably. Franco Hampton does his best when on speed, so this barrier ensures he won’t, but he’ll get the A1 run in transit and look to win via the sprint lane.
Next best: Race 1, Number 2, Taroona Bromac
I am happy to butter up with this gelding from last weekend. I was really surprised by the notable market drift for him last Saturday given it looked like the perfect race for him, and in the end, it was his race. He found the front, got a mid-race breather, and was just too sharp. It is harder here, but he’ll lead and give a big sight.
Value: Race 5, Number 1, Lifes Black
Golightly is the one to beat, but Lifes Black will get the perfect sit. I am not sure what happened last week here. This horse had the 1/1 sit and didn’t really fire, but he’ll get every chance in the run to stalk the leader and from there, he’s a good chance to run top three and is a good bet.
